The Wake Ceremony
Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is “Joe Knight”, I am the FN (a PFN etc.) of the (Named) Assembly.
For those of you who do not know much about the Knights of Columbus, we have 4 degrees, or steps if you will, to becoming a Sir Knight.
The first or Admission Degree of our Order is “CHARITY” to our neighbors and family.
The 2nd or Formation Degree is for “UNITY” with our brothers and church.
The 3rd or Knighthood Degree is “FRATERNITY” with members of our Order.
The 4th degree is “PATRIOTISM” to both Country and Holy Mother Church.
We are here tonight for when a brother knight dies the 4th degree presents an honor guard to stand watch for a specific time.
You also may have noticed the chalice and paten next to the coffin.
At the end of each Columbian Year a chalice is engraved with the names of all the deceased Sir Knight that went to their eternal reward during this year. The chalice is then given to a Newly Ordained Diocesan Priest or Missionary Priest for their use at daily Mass, thereby giving remembrance to our deceased brother Sir Knights.
Start. At this time I would ask you to join us in prayer.
Sign of the Cross.
Any other appropriate prayers.
Conclude: “ May his (name of Sir Knight) soul and the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace. Amen.
